Protecting your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how the NEPHELA app handles data, which information is processed, and what rights you have as a user.

2. Overview of data processing

NEPHELA is designed to process as little data as possible. No user profiles are created, no advertising or tracking technologies are used, and no personal data is stored on NEPHELA’s own servers.

3. Location data (optional)

If you explicitly grant location access, your current location is used solely to display local weather information. Location data is processed only temporarily and is neither stored nor tracked.

4. App settings and local storage

Personal app settings such as selected locations, units, or display options are stored exclusively on your device. No transmission to NEPHELA servers takes place.

5. Weather data providers and external services

NEPHELA obtains weather information from external data providers. As part of their technical operation, these services may process metadata such as IP address, device information, or the time of a request. NEPHELA has no control over this processing.

  • Primary source for current weather conditions, hourly and daily forecasts, weather alerts, and minute-level precipitation trends.
• OpenWeather
  • Air quality data
  • Geocoding and, where applicable, forecast data
  • Map tile layers (clouds, temperature, wind, air pressure)
• Open-Meteo API
  • Open-source weather data operated in Europe.
  • Used to provide weather, precipitation, and elevation data.
• GeoSphere Austria (formerly ZAMG)
  • Austria’s national weather and geodata service.
  • Provides official weather data and mountain weather texts for the Austrian region.
• Google Pollen API
  • Pollen and environmental data (e.g. tree pollen, grasses, weeds) used to provide allergy-related information.
• RainViewer
  • Radar and satellite data for animated map overlays.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google)
  • Used exclusively to deliver push notifications based on topics selected by the user.
• Avalanche warnings (lawinen.report)
  • Publicly available avalanche warnings are retrieved from lawinen.report .
  • The provided data contains no personal information.
  • Data source licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0).

NEPHELA itself does not store or aggregate personal data and does not perform any usage analytics.

6. Background images

Weather-dependent background images are loaded via the Unsplash API. Unsplash does not require the processing of personal data for API usage and does not require attribution, but recommends a source reference. Accordingly: “Images provided by Unsplash”.

7. Data sharing

NEPHELA does not sell, rent, or otherwise transfer personal data. Data is shared only to the extent technically necessary to provide weather information or where legally required.

8. No tracking or analytics

NEPHELA does not use cookies, tracking technologies, advertising identifiers, or analytics tools. Your usage behavior remains private.

9. User rights

Since NEPHELA does not store personal user data, there is generally no stored data that can be accessed, corrected, or deleted. If you have any questions regarding data protection, you can contact us at info@nephela.com.

10. Data security

All data transmissions are encrypted. NEPHELA does not store sensitive personal data and does not maintain user databases.

This Privacy Policy may be updated if necessary. The current version is available via the app and at nephela.com.
