This section explains the basic usage of NEPHELA. You will learn how the app handles location data, how current weather information is displayed, and how to navigate the user interface.
Where can I find this?
When launching the app for the first time, you will be asked
to grant permission to use your location. This setting can be
changed at any time in the iOS system settings under NEPHELA.
What does this feature do?
NEPHELA uses your location solely to retrieve weather data
for your current position. Location access is used
exclusively for this purpose.
Available for: FREE
Without location access:
You can also use NEPHELA without granting location access. In this case,
you manually select locations via the location search and save them
as favorites.
Where can I find this?
On the main screen of the app immediately after opening it.
What does this feature do?
The app displays the most important current weather data for the
selected location. This includes temperature, weather conditions,
high and low values, as well as additional metrics depending on
the enabled weather tiles.

Where can I find this?
Navigation is handled directly via the main view and through
context-related icons, such as search, settings, or export.
What does this feature do?
NEPHELA is intentionally designed to be clear and uncluttered.
Core functions are accessible without nested menus. Detailed views
open contextually, for example by tapping weather tiles
or forecasts.

The main view is the central element of NEPHELA. It displays all relevant weather information for the currently selected location and serves as the starting point for detailed views, forecasts, and additional features.

Directly on the app’s main screen after opening it.
What does this feature do?
Displays the current weather data for the selected location.
This includes temperature, weather conditions, high and low values,
as well as additional metrics depending on the enabled weather tiles.
Available for: FREE

The data is automatically updated when the app is opened
or when more than five minutes have passed since the last update.

At the top of the main view.
What does this feature do?
The weather header displays the current location, temperature,
and current weather conditions. It provides quick orientation
and updates automatically when the location changes or
when data is refreshed.

Where can I find this?
Below the weather header as a horizontally scrollable bar.
What does this feature do?
Displays detailed weather development for the next
40 hours. For each hour, temperature, weather conditions,
and a corresponding icon are shown.

In the central area of the main view as a tile grid.
What does this feature do?
The basic weather tiles display four core weather values:
feels-like temperature, wind, air pressure, and precipitation.
Each tile also includes a trend indicator
(rising, falling, or stable).

Note:
Tapping a tile opens a detailed chart showing the
time-based progression of the respective weather value.
Where can I find this?
As the background of the main view.
What does this feature do?
The background automatically adapts to the current
weather conditions and time of day. It supports visual
interpretation of the weather without compromising
content readability.

Where can I find this?
Consistently throughout the entire app user interface.
What does this feature do?
Liquid Glass is a visual design element featuring
transparent surfaces and subtle blur effects.
It creates a sense of depth and provides a calm,
modern appearance.

Note:
On iOS 18 and later, the native Liquid Glass design
is used. On earlier iOS versions, a visually
comparable effect is applied.
Where can I find this?
Automatically active when no internet connection is available.
A notification banner appears at the top of the screen.
What does this feature do?
When no internet connection is available, NEPHELA
continues to display the most recently retrieved weather data.
New data is loaded as soon as the connection
is restored.

NEPHELA provides clear weather forecasts for multiple days and hours in advance. The presentation is designed to make trends and developments easy to understand at a glance.

Below the hourly forecast as a vertical list.
What does this feature do?
Displays the weather forecast for the next seven days.
For each day, weather conditions, high and low values,
as well as sunrise and sunset times are shown.

Where can I find this?
In the same area as the 7-day forecast, extended by
three additional days.
What does this feature do?
Extends the forecast to a total of ten days and enables
better planning over longer periods.
Available for: PRO
Without a subscription:
Only the 7-day forecast is displayed. At the end of the list,
a note about the PRO subscription is shown.
Where can I find this?
By tapping on a weather tile in the main view.
What does this feature do?
Displays the time-based progression of a selected weather value
over past and upcoming hours. This allows trends and changes
to be recognized at a glance.
Available for: FREE
Note:
Available for basic weather tiles. PRO users additionally receive
detailed charts for extended weather data.
Where can I find this?
In the daily forecast as well as as a dedicated weather tile
in the main view.
What does this feature do?
Displays the exact times for sunrise and sunset
per day. PRO users additionally see the solar noon
as well as civil twilight times.

The map and radar views in NEPHELA allow for a visual assessment of precipitation areas and weather developments in your surroundings. The presentation is interactive and designed for clarity.

In the main view below the forecasts as a map view.
What does this feature do?
Displays an interactive map with current and forecast
precipitation areas. Rain and snow zones are shown
using color coding, allowing you to quickly identify
where precipitation is occurring or expected.

Without a subscription:
The precipitation map is not displayed.
A note about the PRO subscription appears in the settings.

Where can I find this?
By tapping on the precipitation map in the main view.
What does this feature do?
Opens the precipitation map in full-screen mode.
You can freely pan and zoom the map and examine
temporal developments in more detail.

Without a subscription:
Not available, as the precipitation map itself
is a PRO feature.
NEPHELA informs you about relevant weather events without being intrusive. Alerts and notices appear only when they are genuinely relevant.
Where can I find this?
As a notification banner at the top of the main view
when rain or snowfall is expected within the next
60 minutes.
What does this feature do?
The rain alert provides early information about
upcoming precipitation. It shows the start time,
duration, and intensity.
Optionally, you can open a detailed view with
minute-by-minute data.
Available for: FREE
Note:
The rain alert is based on minute-level
forecast models and is especially useful
for short-term daily planning.
Where can I find this?
As a warning banner at the top of the main view
as soon as official weather warnings are issued
for your region.
What does this feature do?
Displays official weather warnings such as severe
weather, storms, heat, or frost. The warnings include
information about the type of event, validity period,
and affected areas.

Tap on a warning to open a detailed overview
with all available information.
Where can I find this?
Settings → Enable Live Activity.
After activation, it appears in the
Dynamic Island and on the lock screen.
What does this feature do?
The Live Activity continuously displays
current weather data outside the app.
This includes temperature, weather conditions,
and relevant changes without needing to
open the app.

Note:
The Live Activity updates automatically
in the background and can be disabled
at any time in the settings.
Where can I find this?
In the main view via the export icon
in the top right corner.
What does this feature do?
Creates a comprehensive weather report as a PDF document.
The report contains weather data for the selected location at the selected time,
forecasts, charts, and a summary.
Available for:PRO
Without a subscription:
The export button opens a notice about the PRO subscription.
PDF creation is not available.
Note:
Creating the PDF may take a few seconds.
A loading indicator is displayed during this time.
Where can I find this?
After successful PDF creation, the iOS share sheet
appears automatically.
What does this feature do?
Allows sharing the generated PDF via other apps,
saving it to the Files app, or printing it.

NEPHELA allows you to easily switch between different locations. Frequently used places can be saved as favorites to quickly access their weather data.
Where can I find this?
In the location search as the first entry under
“Current Location”.
What does this feature do?
Uses your device’s GPS to automatically retrieve
weather data for your current location.
The location is updated when required.
Available for: FREE
Note:
Location access is required for this feature.
Permission can be adjusted at any time in the
iOS system settings.
Where can I find this?
Via the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the main view.
What does this feature do?
Allows searching for cities, regions, or addresses
worldwide. Search results are displayed while typing.

Note:
Found locations can be selected directly or saved
as favorites.
Where can I find this?
In the location search under the “Favorites”
section below the current location.
What does this feature do?
Allows saving up to five locations as favorites.
This makes it easy to switch between frequently
used locations.

Favorites remain saved even when the app is closed.
They can be removed using a swipe gesture.

Also located in the “Favorites” section of the location search.
What does this feature do?
Extends the maximum number of storable favorites
to up to 20 locations. Ideal for users who regularly
need weather data for many locations.

Without a subscription:
Once the limit of five favorites is reached,
a notice about the PRO subscription appears.

What does this feature do?
You can customize the color of the weather icons and selected text elements in the app.
This allows the appearance to be adapted to personal preferences or lighting conditions.

What does this feature do?
Determines whether temperatures are displayed in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
The change takes effect immediately across the entire app.

What is used?
NEPHELA uses location data exclusively to retrieve weather data for your
current position. The data is neither stored nor further processed.

Location access can be changed or disabled at any time in the iOS system
settings. The app remains usable without location access if locations
are selected manually.
What is used?
Current weather data and forecasts are provided by Apple WeatherKit.

Notes:
Both services are subject to the respective privacy policies
of Apple and OpenWeather. NEPHELA does not store weather data
on its own servers.
What is stored?
Favorites, app settings (units, language, colors,
appearance), and the status of Live Activity are stored
exclusively locally on your device.

When the app is uninstalled, all locally stored data is deleted.
Subscriptions remain linked to your Apple ID and can be restored.
What does this mean?
NEPHELA does not share any user data, location information,
or usage statistics with third parties.
